Judging others, judging Otherkin

What can you say about other people? Well, you can say what you like, because it’s your opinion, and your entitled to it. In fact, making decisions about people is a major part of getting on in this world, and even relying on the short-hand of stereotypes is acceptable - it’s just human nature.

So how do you judge other people’s magickal ability? By their vocabulary? By their knowledge of your favourite system? By shared beliefs? By the results of their workings? Again, you make a judgment as you see fit, as you ‘feel’ fit.

But would you ever judge a person’s spirituality? A person’s private spiritual life? Is it for you to judge a persons inner most workings?

You might get a strong sense about a person; you might wish to avoid them, or work with them for no mundane reason - you just feel that way. Maybe you recognise their energy signature, maybe you connect their energy with something else you’ve experienced in the past. You might be spot on, but you accept that it might be a memory, a bias on your part yeah?

So how do you feel about judging someone’s Otherkinness? Those people who report not being huma, being other than human. Those people who consider their inner self to be not of the human race. Many would decide that they are being fanciful. Perhaps you, with your Sight or Sense might accept that there’s something else going on. Would you dare go so far asĀ  to decide what type of Otherkin a person is? Would your sense be the ‘right’ answer?

I have always said that it is up to each individual to find their place in this world. Witch or Magus, Vampire or Werekin, Odin Worshiper or Panentheist. Do we really want other people to drop labels on us, when labels can be so constricting?! The journey is winding, and we grow our of some names, titles and terms over time. I no longer consider myself a ceremonial magickian.

Considering how personal one’s own identity is, and how intimate one’s one Kintype is (the type of Otherkin one is) it strikes me as a completely personal matter, and while talented, sensitive and experienced people can help us on the journey to self-knowledge (the ‘Awakening’ process, in Otherkin parlance) it must be up to the individual to learn their own Kintype, and develop their own self of sense.

Perhaps you and I might meet; you might get an intense sense of fire and plasma from me, a sense of heat and power. You might have something elemental to say about that, and you’re welcome to voice your observations, but isn’t it up to me to ‘know myself’ and up to you to ‘know thyself’?

The Rede is Not Enough

The Wiccan Rede, “an ye harm none”, is not a universally accepted rule in the magickal / spiritual community. It’s a Wiccan belief and not a pan-pagan ideal.

It is idealistic, which is both its strength and weakness.

We need ideals to aim for, to keep us true to our path, but life needs practical guidelines too. Anyone subscribing to the Rede must find their own way to make it real in their everyday life, not just in their spell casting circle.

I can’t. Due to the complexities of the globalised life, I can’t say I know how my investments will affect other people. I can’t say how the food I buy, or the clothes I wear have affected people in developing and third world countries.

The decisions I make, and the magick workings I perform, may have ramifications outside my intentions, insight and understanding. Even divination cannot show one the whole web of the world.

Hex-Me Dot Com → hex-me.co.uk

As far as I can tell, Hex Me offers revenge curses. It’s not easy to find that out as there’s too much gumph on their pages, and no prices or Hex examples, but it seems they offer a commercial cursing service.

They emailed me to see if we could work together; I guess I’m touched that they found xaos.org.uk interesting enough to consider working with me. I shall have to have a think.

Must re-launch

Last year I experimented in creating personalised Sigils for customers, using eBay and eBid as a direct sales tool. I learnt a lot, and it’s time I revamped my prices to be more inline with the actual time spent working magick for people.

Note to self; must re-launch Chaos Magick Sigil Business!
